Day 1
Day 2
This stretch of road was formed during the French concession, thus boasting a famous row of European style buildings, housing many modern shops like Starbucks and other household brands like Shanghai Tang. What strikes us most is the beauty of the buildings. However, something disappointing is that the buildings are just a facade, as its interior historical culture is all gone, leaving us with only an empty shell of what it was in the previous centuries. It is still an amazing and beautiful place one simply has to visit.
The urban planning exhibition shows a great amount of detail of how olden shanghai has improved to one of the world's most famous cities. It shows the different type of architecture China owns throughout their long years of history. What we find fascinating about this attraction is that how detailed the mini landscape of modern shanghai is. It give us a clearer picture in mind of the bird's eyes view of shanghai. It was fascinating. But we decided to keep the rating as 3/5 as it did not capture the attention of the tourist. Many were sitting down on the benches and there isn't any guides that maybe give you a enticing story about urban planning. Thus, we feel it isn't really a good place to increase your knowledge of china. 3/5
A hotpot restaurant that not only serves food that tourist savour after the meal,it also provides good service. The routine of serving is really detailed. When one is eating a meal that cause one's spectacles to be blurry the restaurant immediately gave us a small cloth to wipe our glasses.Even for girls with long hair who would have thought u could actually eat without additional ingredients. We were treated in royalty. The service there was better than best as the restaurant's mentality is not to just serve food but serve as if their customers were their best of friends. The friends and courteous approach that the waiter and waitresses gave us was heartwarming and left an deep impression on us.It was as if we were eating at home with our families. Such impact has caused not to say 5/5 or even 10/5 .
Day 3
This tea house is located in a park, its entrance facing a scenic river. Inside, the interior design resembles a traditional tea house back during the dynastic years. The loud noises and the crowdedness inside the eatery might feel suffocating and unruly for some, but it is just like a "kopi" shop in the singapore, except maybe with more antique styled chairs, and noisier. After you have ordered, food just keeps being served. For breakfast, the food items can be summed up into a few categories: carbohydrates, and the rest. About half of the meal were carbohydrate food items, like buns. There were meat buns, vegetable buns, delicious cake and even an enormous bun filled with soup and meat, where a straw is needed to drink the soup before consuming the meat. The food portions were very big though, and majority of us could not even finish half of our meal, despite how delicious the food seemed. The big portions is due to the fact that the people in Yangzhou only eat two meals, breakfast and dinner, thus the heavy meal. However, since us Singaporeans have different lifestyle habits, and eat lighter breakfasts, the breakfast provided by the tea house were a little too much for us.
QianQiuFenDai performance:
A special performance put up by a few elegant and graceful ladies. These ladies showcased their Yangzhou dialect, along with beautiful performances of some chinese orchestral instruments, singing and dancing. Everyone was really absorbed into watching the show. It had been a tired and hectic day for us so we really enjoyed the performance. Some of us were really tired and were unable to concentrate on the performance but the others were happily clapping along with the performers. Therefore, we rated this as 4/5.
Day4
Going to the school in Yangzhou has been a very refreshing and unique experience for us. We learnt many new things and brought back many memories from the school back to Singapore. Some things we learnt were the good learning attitudes the students had. They sat with their backs straight and listen attentively in the class, something Singapore students can rarely accomplish. The students also participate quite actively in class, answering the teacher when the teacher poses a question. I hope to be able to pick up and learn the same good, eager learning attitude they have. In china, a lot of emphasis is placed on academics. Students spend majority of their time and effort on their studies, so as to score well and get into their dream schools. Competition is very stiff in china, and with limited spaces in desirable schools, it is no wonder the students are much more focused on their academics than singapore students, who can enter schools not just by academics but by holistic aspects too. The school building itself is very spacious and big, with an enormous track and even a four-storey high library, a dreamland for athletes and book-lovers. However one downslide of the school is the toilets. It is not as clean or modern as ours back in singapore. Their toilets did not have mirrors either. All these facilities lacking in their toilets as compared with ours is most probably to save the unnecessary time spent in toilets, like checking appearances. From our two-day visit to the school, we learn many new things like the habits and behaviours of our Chinese peers and the Chinese culture too, like the dragon-boat festively which the school kindly organised activities for us to learn more about our Chinese traditional festival. Overall, it had been a wonderful experience.
Lushi mansion
The mansion was really well designed. There were lanterns used as a decoration at night. We had our dinner at the Lushi mansion. The food that was served was Yangzhou's traditional food. We enjoyed the taste a lot and it was one of the best meals we had in China. Thus, we rated it a 5/5.
Riding along this river is a wonderful and breathtaking experience. Along the banks are mainly willow trees, and both modern and historical buildings. There were buildings like hotels and temples, all which amplified to the beautiful scenery. On the boat, not only can you enjoy the beautiful scenery, there is also an introduction to the river, via a recording through the intercom, for example, the bridges spanning across the river. There are in total 6 bridges, one if which still under construction. Each have a unique story behind their construction, just like the river itself, which was a favourite attraction to previous emperors. If it even has the ability to charm the emperors of china, it would definitely charm all tourists visiting.
Day 5
Day 6
Paper Cutting Museum
It was the first time for us to use a pair of paper cutting scissors. We learnt the proper method on how to use the scissors. Paper cutting required lots of attention and care in order to cut out the perfect shape so some of us were not able to carry out the paper cutting lesson properly. The instructors taught us well and even helped some of us if we were lacking behind. The designs we cut out were really pretty and much better than that of an amateur's, therefore we rated this experience as a 4/5
Car enthusiast would definitely love this trip to shanghai's Volkswagen tour around their car factory. When we entered the big hall of the Volkswagen office it was spectacular as what greet us is cars not any cars but Volkswagen. The tour guide gave us an enriching talk about their company and even a non car enthusiast can't help but also be shock at the magnificent view and information they are hearing. When entering the car assembly room whereby they fix the Volkswagen car one would be just angry at the restriction of photography. Rows and rows of cars are being manufactured in front of our faces. To conclude this amazing tour using three words magnificent, cool and car-fabulous. It was definitely enriching as it thought us the transport we see everyday actually go through so many small little detail of hard work's of many. Learn to cherish.
Day 7
Faster train on earth. Would it feel as if we on a roller coaster? Will I fly off my seat? No it was a comfortable 3 hour ride. Why 5/5 ? Unlike the MRTs that a Singaporean is use to it was actually a luxury to be on a cozy chair while we travel in top speed. While enjoying music and have a snack one could actually take a break off one's busy schedule of that short period of amount of time. If you are disappointed your friend is seating behind you, fear not u could switch your chair around such that you can talk to your friend face to face. Also, they provided a clean toilet to be use by commuters who have an urgent need to answer the call of nature. Even though it might be fast trip it is also a comfortable and relax experience.
