One lesson I have learnt so far from the module
In the past three weeks, I have done and learnt many things. Like other students, I went for my cca, did my homework, and relaxed by reading. In the first three weeks of Year 2, it has been quite smooth for me. I was able to understand the curriculum and do relatively well for my work, in my opinion. I have learnt many things in the last three weeks. In this module, I have also learnt and gained new knowledge. This CID module is interesting to me as it is unique to RV and this year's CID module is held differently from last year. Unlike last year where we chose the module we were interested in, this year, we are having CID lessons as a class, learning about different cultures in the world. It's like the quote, "The world is in your classroom.". One valuable lesson I have learnt from this module so far is that pictures can aid us in many things, like understanding others or feeling a certain emotion. For example, in the second lesson, we looked at some pictures about poverty. From the pictures, I have learnt not to judge a book from its cover. Like Singapore is a country with a strong economy, but yet there are still poor people living in cramp and terrible conditions. These pictures have taught me to appreciate what I have, and treasure the luxuries I can enjoy. I have also understood how the foreigners who moved to Singapore for a better life feel about how us Singaporeans are towards them. In the third lesson, we were to post pictures describing a certain emotion. When I was taking the pictures, as I saw the pictures through the screen if my iPad, I could feel those emotions stirring within me. One of the pictures I took was of a millipede. I personally am not afraid of millipedes. However, while seeing the photo, I could imagine how those who really fear millipedes would feel. A picture paints a thousand words. It taught me lots of new information. In conclusion, the most valuable lesson I have learnt form this module is how pictures help us understand something or feel a certain emotion.
Select one colour, one symbol, and one image to describe your feelings, thoughts or experience of the upcoming Chinese New Year.
To me, the colour which represents Chinese New Year is green. In the Eastern world, green symbolises family and harmony. During Chinese New Year, we visit our relatives, and the day before Chinese New Year, we have a reunion dinner. Doesn't it bring the family together? To me, Chinese New Year is a festival which brings the family closer, and is a festival about family and harmonising, therefore green is the best colour to symbolise Chinese New Year, since it has a similar meaning to the festival. The symbol I chose to represent Chinese New Year is the Endless knot, also known as the eternal knot. It is a symbol which never ends, and goes on forever. I chose this symbol as it shows that the bond and love which exist between the family is eternal and endless, and only strengthens during Chinese New Year. It also represents eternal love, like in a family, no matter what happens, we will always love each other. Hence I feel that the endless know best represents Chinese New Year. The image I have chosen is an image of Yu Sheng, a traditional food eaten every Chinese New Year. I chose this picture as it symbolises a reunion dinner, where everyone gathers to have a meal together. This shows the family harmony, and everyone happily eating and chatting over a meal. Yu sheng also symbolises good luck, like abundance in wealth. Chinese New Year means a new year with new prospects and new beginnings, and Yu Sheng brings everyone together to celebrate. It describes Chinese New Year, thus I chose it. Besides, Yu Sheng is also delicious, especially the crackers! Thinking about it makes me salivate.
